What is the #1 mistake you are making with healthy eating?
In other words, why are you still struggling even after you tried so many different recipes, gadgets and meal subscriptions?
It’s because you put everything in your fridge right after your grocery shopping. Or when your CSA box is delivered.
I know… you are puzzled. What is Mari talking about?
Let me explain.
This is how it looks when I come home from my semi-monthly grocery shopping.
When I get carried away with all the amazing sales, it’s even worse… They are about to fall off of the counter.
When I just shove them into the fridge, this is how it looks.
BEFORE
As a matter of fact, this is not THAT bad, because I batch-prepped about half of the veggies and fruit last night, enough for 1 week (more about that later). If I didn’t prep, imagine this fridge twice as full, jam-packed to the brim… I wouldn’t even know what’s where (and what’s getting rotten underneath)…
When you see this, can you guess what kind of emotion used to come up for me?
Yup, 😱🤯 stress, overwhelm, feeling lost… “I don’t know what to do”, etc…
What is even worse is, not just one time, but every F-ing time I would open the fridge… It got worse and worse as I tried to look for things, creating even more mess.
No wonder I used to dread dinner time and instead, went out to eat or relied on pre-made food, that cost us tens of thousands of dollars and higher medical bills.
AFTER
Now, how about this? What kind of emotion do you think comes up for me?
And on the kitchen counter:
When you see these how do they make you feel?
Yup. Organized and prepared, even relaxed and excited for the all the possible meals you can make for the rest of the week.
And the actual meals will be done in minutes, just like in these “Tasty” videos!
It didn’t stop there.
Take a look at these…
BEFORE (no batch prep)
- Results:
- wasted time & food,
- more mess, more stress,
- eat poorly,
- Long term:
- lack of energy and brain fog,
- health issues,
- self-esteem issues (feel bad about myself)
AFTER batch prepping
- Results:
- save time, effort and food,
- eat healthy,
- feel better
- Long term:
- increased energy,
- feel inspired,
- look and feel healthier, younger and lighter
That’s why I bother to spend about an hour or two to batch prep every week. Because I know how much I gain back during the week.
Now how would this affect your life? Family? Career?
Many people think I do this because I am organized and disciplined. That’s the farthest from the truth.
I’m lazy and disorganized, that’s why I MAKE time to do this, because if I don’t, I’m back to square one. Start struggling, wasting time in the kitchen, eating more snacks than meals…
But I know better now. Because if I don’t do this, I know I will become diabetic or who knows what other health issues I could end up with.
Yes, I admit it. Sometimes I feel lazy and don’t do the prep right away. But then my meal preparation becomes so much longer and difficult, so I know it’s time to do the batch prep. After that, everything goes so much smoother.
You are what you eat.
It’s worth it. You are worth it.
Put your favorite music or podcast on and spend a little extra time to get the batch prep done. If you have a family, try to do the prep together.
Start small. Start NOW.
You’ll be glad you did.
